The BMW iX1, the German marque's entry-level electric SUV, has become dramatically more expensive in Nepal. Following the Government of Nepal's FY 2026/27 budget, the iX1 is now priced at Rs 3,29,96,000 — up from around Rs 1,99,96,000, an increase of roughly Rs 1.3 crore (about 65%).
Why the price jumped
The new budget overhauled how electric vehicles are taxed. Earlier, EV duties were calculated on the basis of motor power. The revised policy instead bases tax on the vehicle's CIF (Cost, Insurance & Freight) value, applying a 20% customs duty plus a “Green Infrastructure Fee” that ranges from 2.5% up to 130%. EVs with a CIF above Rs 5 million fall into the steepest brackets — and the iX1, with its 180 kW powertrain and premium price tag, lands squarely in the higher band.
Other BMW EVs also affected
The iX1 isn't alone. Distributor Laxmi Premium Motors has confirmed that prices of its other BMW electric models — including the iX2 and iX3 — have also risen, though the company is yet to publish the full revised price list. We will update our listings as those figures are confirmed.
What it means for buyers
The revision makes the iX1 one of the costlier compact electric SUVs in Nepal and widens the gap between premium European EVs and the growing wave of more affordable Chinese models. Anyone shopping for a luxury EV should budget for the new CIF-based duty structure, which hits higher-value imports hardest.
