What petrol costs you per km
At today's price a full 35 litre tank costs about Rs. 7,000. Running cost per km at Rs 200 a litre, against charging an electric vehicle at home on the NEA tariff:
| Vehicle | Cost per km | Per 1,000 km |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol car, 12 km/l | Rs. 16.67 | Rs. 16,667 |
| Petrol car, 15 km/l | Rs. 13.33 | Rs. 13,333 |
| Petrol bike, 45 km/l | Rs. 4.44 | Rs. 4,444 |
| Electric car, 6.5 km/kWh, home charging | Rs. 1.78 | Rs. 1,780 |
| Electric scooter, 30 km/kWh, home charging | Rs. 0.39 | Rs. 390 |
Electric figures use the NEA domestic tariff (about Rs 10.55 a unit for 200 units a month of charging on top of a 150-unit home) and 10% charging loss. A 50 kWh full charge at home is about Rs. 522; at a public charger about Rs. 680 (Rs 12.36 a unit ceiling).

How NOC sets the price
Nepal imports all its petroleum from Indian Oil Corporation. Nepal Oil Corporation, the state monopoly, reviews retail prices about every two weeks under its automatic pricing system, after it receives the new purchase price, and publishes the result on its website. Prices differ by depot group because of transport cost from the border. On 1 October 2026 NOC re-entered the current prices for every depot without a change; reports at the time said NOC chose to hold prices through the festival season despite a higher purchase price.
