MG U9 EV Launch in Nepal: A Game-Changer in Premium Electric Pickup Trucks

Paramount Motors Pvt. Ltd., the authorized distributor of MG Motor in Nepal, has announced the upcoming launch of the all-new MG U9 EV. This launch signifies MG Motor’s strategic entry into the premium electric pickup segment, positioning the U9 EV as a high-performance electric lifestyle truck designed to meet the demands of modern drivers.

Performance and Power

The MG U9 EV is engineered for exceptional performance, featuring a dual-motor setup with Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors. This configuration delivers a combined power output of 325 kW, distributed as 125 kW at the front and 200 kW at the rear. The system generates an impressive 700 Nm of torque (250 Nm front / 450 Nm rear), allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds and achieve a top speed of 190 km/h.

Versatile Suspension and Drive Modes

Designed for versatility across various terrains, the MG U9 EV is equipped with advanced suspension systems, including air suspension, a double wishbone front suspension, and a multi-link rear suspension. It also features an All-Terrain System (ATS) that offers multiple drive modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, Tow, Off-Road, and Custom. These modes are tailored to adapt to Nepal’s diverse and challenging driving conditions, ensuring optimal performance in any scenario.

Range and Charging Capabilities

The MG U9 EV is powered by a robust 102.2 kWh LFP battery pack, providing a claimed range of up to 430 km (WLTP). The vehicle supports DC fast charging, enabling a charge from 20% to 80% in approximately 42 minutes. Additionally, it includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability of up to 6.6 kW, along with multiple 2.2 kW interior outlets, effectively transforming the U9 EV into a mobile power source for various needs.

Comfort and Technology

Step inside, and the MG U9 EV impresses with a focus on comfort and cutting-edge technology. The cabin features a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience. An 8-speaker JBL audio system delivers premium sound quality throughout the cabin.

Premium elements such as leather upholstery, a heated microfibre leather steering wheel, and 64-color ambient lighting elevate the interior’s luxury appeal. The Flagship variant takes it a step further with an 8-way electronically adjustable driver’s seat that includes ventilation, massage, and memory functions, offering personalized comfort for the driver.

Space and Capacity

With a 3300 mm wheelbase, the MG U9 EV provides generous cabin space, making it ideal for both passengers and cargo. The pickup boasts a 685 kg payload capacity and a 3,500 kg braked towing capacity, ensuring it can handle substantial loads and towing tasks with ease.

Advanced Safety Features

Safety is a top priority in the MG U9 EV, which is equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. These include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), and Blind Spot Detection (BSD). The vehicle also features a 360-degree HD camera and front and rear parking sensors, providing drivers with enhanced visibility and peace of mind.

Relationship to Maxus eTerron 9

It’s important to note that the MG U9 EV is essentially a rebadged and slightly restyled version of the Maxus eTerron 9, which is already available in Nepal. Both models are developed under SAIC Motor, MG’s parent company, and share the same platform, drivetrain, and core engineering. The primary differences lie in the interior trims and feature packaging, with MG positioning the U9 as a more lifestyle-oriented alternative to appeal to a broader audience.
